Trump says Chinese President Xi Jinping pledged not to send weapons to Iran
by Tom Howell Jr. · The Washington TimesPresident Trump said Wednesday that Chinese President Xi Jinping told him Beijing would not send weapons to Iran.
Mr. Trump said Mr. Xi made a personal commitment to him in writing.
“I wrote him a letter asking him not to do that, and he wrote me a letter saying that, essentially, he’s not doing that,” Mr. Trump told Fox Business’ “Mornings with Maria.”
In a separate Truth Social post, Mr. Trump said China, a longtime strategic partner to Iran, was happy that the U.S. military was working to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Many countries in Asia rely on the strait for its share of oil supplies from the Middle East.
“I am doing it for them, also — And the World,” he posted. “This situation will never happen again. [China] have agreed not to send weapons to Iran.”
Mr. Trump spoke about China’s pledge as he works to wind down his war on Iran and reach a deal that prevents Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

The U.S. president is scheduled to visit Mr. Xi in China in early May.
“President Xi will give me a big, fat, hug when I get there in a few weeks,” Mr. Trump posted. “We are working together smartly, and very well! Doesn’t that beat fighting??? BUT REMEMBER, we are very good at fighting, if we have to — far better than anyone else!!!”
