Soccer fans in the Borderland just got a plot twist worthy of TV and no, it’s not an episode of Ted Lasso. It’s real life because El Paso Locomotive FC announced that it has signed forward Cristo Fernández, pending league and federation approval.
While contract details remain under wraps, this is still the kind of news we were hoping for!!

Fernández, best known for playing the endlessly optimistic Dani Rojas in the Apple TV series Ted Lasso, is proving that “football is life” isn’t just a line, it's his reality and now that reality is happening here in El Paso!
Before achieving fame as an actor, Cristo started his soccer journey with Tecos FC but had to step away at just 15 due to injury. Now, years later, he’s making a comeback in a way that feels straight out of a movie script.
Head Coach Junior Gonzalez says Fernández brings more than just skill to the pitch. His passion, leadership, and energy are expected to elevate both the team’s attack and locker room culture.
After a two-month trial period with the club, where he trained consistently and even appeared in a preseason match against New Mexico United, Fernández earned his spot the hard way.
In his own words, Cristo said that this journey back to professional fútbol soccer is about believing in yourself and chasing dreams, no matter how unexpected the path.
"Because as we say in Mexico: hay que seguirle echando ganas (let’s keep giving it our all). Siempre agradecido con Dios, mi familia y amistades por creer en mí. Maybe I’m just a crazy man with crazy dreams… so being here with the “Locos” actually makes perfect sense. ¡Vamos Locos!”
With this signing, El Paso Locomotive FC adds a unique and inspiring piece to its 2026 roster and fans now have one more reason to chant, “¡Vamos Locos!”
