Teen-Approved El Paso Spots Moms Secretly Love Too
· NewsTalk 1290When I had my first son I was always warned that one day my child will be my built-in bestie, and the next… I’ll be competing with friends, video games, and even… GIRLS!! *Gasps in Spanish*
Well, that has recently become my reality. All the date nights I used to have with my son no longer exist because he wants to hang out with his friends. Hey, I was that teenage kid at one point so I can’t get too mad or offended. However, whenever my teenage son does want to hang out with me, I jump on that opportunity.
Whether it’s food, shopping, or a little adrenaline, I’ve realized the best moments happen when there’s something keeping us both entertained and giving us space to just talk naturally without pressure. So if you’re in that phase where your teen is slowly becoming too cool (but still kinda loves you), here are our go-to spots that somehow pass the “not cringe” test and turn into some of my favorite memories:
8 Places Teens Actually Want to Hang With Mom
Five Below: The most random, chaotic fun. We go for candy and end up exploring every aisle—and somehow still spend way more than expected.
- Multiple locations across El Paso, Texas.
Sushi Garden: My son’s favorite (and yes, he’s an expensive date). It’s our go-to for special outings, and the drive there is honestly half the bonding experience.
- Sushir Garden: 5435 N Mesa St Suite A, El Paso, TX 79912
Western Playland: Roller coasters = instant bonding. I scream, he laughs, and somehow we both have the best time.
- Western Playland: 1249 Futurity Dr, Sunland Park, NM 88063
Wet N Wild Waterworld: I may not be the strongest swimmer, but put me here with my son and suddenly I’m fearless. Bonus points for cabanas and just hanging out together all day.
- Wet 'N' Wild Waterworld: 8804 S Desert Blvd, Anthony, TX 79821
Barrio Vintage (Downtown thrifting): He finds his vintage style, I find a few hidden gems, and we both leave happy (even if my wallet doesn’t).
- Barrio Vintage: 210 S Mesa St #D, El Paso, TX 79901
El Paso Chihuahuas Games: Me and my son are not much of baseball fans, but for us it’s all about the environment sn most importantly, the turkey legs!
- Southwest University Park: 1 Ballpark Plaza, El Paso, TX 79901
La Nube Children's Museum: Yes, it’s technically for little kids… but you’d be surprised how much fun teens can have here too. Between the interactive exhibits and hands-on activities, it turns into a competition of who can outplay who. It’s one of those spots where your teen forgets to be “too cool” and just has fun again.
- La Nube Children's Museums: 201 W Main Dr, El Paso, TX 79901
Licon Dairy Farm: A throwback to his childhood that still hits. He loves the animals, and I love the memories.
- Licon Dairy: 11951 Glorietta Rd, San Elizario, TX 79849
Dripping Springs Natural Area: Perfect for an easy hike and a quick road trip when he’s in the mood to be outdoorsy.
- Dripping Springs Natural Area: 15000 Dripping Springs Rd, Las Cruces, NM 88011
Old Town Albuquerque: A little getaway filled with shops, food, and exploring—totally worth the drive.
- Old Town Albuquerque, NM 87104
At the end of the day, I’ll go wherever he wants—because these moments? They don’t come around as often as they used to, and I’m soaking up every single one.
