Dutch football association KNVB wants Infantino to be replaced as the FIFA president

The Dutch football association KNVB wants for the FIFA President Gianni Infantino to be replaced, NOS reports based on a letter from the KNVB to Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) President Aleksander Ceferin. The Dutch association also does not want Infantino to attend an international summit in Amsterdam, where KNVB wants to discuss the change in leadership.

"The KNVB no longer has confidence in FIFA President Gianni Infantino. We believe that FIFA needs new leadership, but a new president alone is not enough. The way FIFA is governed must also change," the association stated. FIFA is the top international football governing body.

Gijs de Jong, Secretary General of the KNVB, said he does not want Infantino to attend the meeting because “we have lost the trust. He is not welcome at this meeting about the future. He is the past."

NOS reported that KNVB itself made proposals for a new FIFA in the letter and offered to host the international summit in Amsterdam.

"The KNVB would like to organize such a summit in Amsterdam, a city with a special place in FIFA's history. Where, in 1928, almost a century ago, the decision was made for the first time to hold a World Cup," the football association wrote to UEFA President Ceferin.

KNVB does not just want Infantino gone - it also argues for some changes, such as making sure the president does not interfere with daily operations. It also argues that the new leadership itself would need to be supervised by an independent body and to be open to explaining its decisions in press conferences.

"Everyone who is open to a new FIFA is welcome," de Jong said about the summit.

European football officials recently met up in Monaco, where, among other things, it was announced that UEFA is preparing a criminal case against Infantino.
