Utrecht police officer arrested on suspicion of raping teenager in Nieuwegein

A Utrecht police officer has been arrested on suspicion of raping a teenager in Nieuwegein. Prosecutors say the officer is suspected of taking an intoxicated girl to a parking area near a McDonald’s in Nieuwegein, where he and another suspect allegedly sexually abused her while she had no way to escape.

Radio1 has reported that the officer in question is Walco B., a seasoned officer in the Midden-Nederland unit with a leadership role. Authorities have also arrested a second man, aged 47, who is not affiliated with the police. The girl was between 16 and 18 years old during the incident.

The victim met B. at a café in IJsselstein while he was off duty and was intoxicated at the time. He made it clear that he is a police officer and offered to drive her home, but instead took her to a parking area by the McDonald's in Nieuwegein. Prosecutors say she was undressed and raped in the back seat of a car, while she was unable to defend herself and had made it clear that she wanted to go home.

Both suspects were arrested on Friday, October 24, 2025, and have remained in custody since October 27. The case is set to be heard in full on June 9 at the Utrecht court.

B.’s colleagues were shocked and angry after hearing about the incident. Many enjoyed working with B., considering him a hard-working officer who was relentless in his pursuit of criminality, according to Radio1. Police have confirmed that dismissal proceedings against him are underway and nearing completion.
