Police arrest Belgian man after 40-person brawl on Breda’s Grote Markt
A 31-year-old Belgian man was arrested Saturday night after a large-scale fight in the center of Breda, where roughly 40 people were involved, with multiple objects from outdoor terraces used as projectiles, Omroep Brabant reports.
The violence broke out around 10:15 p.m. Saturday on the Grote Markt in the city center of Breda. Police said the situation escalated into a mass confrontation, where people threw terrace furniture, glassware, candles, and wine bottles. Authorities said the cause of the unrest is still unclear.
The 31-year-old Belgian man arrested at the scene is being treated by police both as a suspect and as a victim in connection with the incident.
Police are asking witnesses and anyone with photos or video footage of the fight to come forward.
