Seahawks rule RB Jadarian Price out for Week 4 game vs. Chargers

by · The Seattle Times

RENTON — The Seahawks will be without rookie running back Jadarian Price for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Seahawks on Friday listed Price as out after he re-aggravated a chest injury he initially suffered in the second half of Seattle’s win at Arizona on Sept. 20.

Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said he did not know yet if the injury could keep Price out beyond this week.

Price was listed as limited for two practices last week but then full for Friday’s practice and played against the Commanders. He was listed as limited this Wednesday, appearing on track to play again, but then was out on Thursday and again Friday.

With Price out, Seattle will have four running backs potentially available for the Chargers game: Emanuel Wilson and George Holani, who are both on the 53-man roster, and Velus Jones Jr. and Jacardia Wright, who are both on the practice squad. However, Macdonald said Wright is working through some things health-wise, indicating he will not be available.

“I’m excited to see these guys play,” Macdonald said. “It’s unfortunate with JD (Price). Hopefully this gives him an opportunity to get healthy. But we’ve got guys that are ready to go behind him that rare preparing their tails off and are good players, so we feel like we have a good plan and we’ll go play a game.”

Jones has already been elevated twice this season, and while he has not seen action on offense he has played 39 special-teams snaps. His special-teams experience might make him the most likely to be elevated off the practice squad.

Not yet eligible to play is Zach Charbonnet. Charbonnet was designated as returning to practice on Thursday from the Physically Unable to Perform list. But because he began the season on the PUP list he must sit out the first four games and can’t play Sunday. The first game for which he would be eligible is Oct. 11 against the 49ers at Lumen Field.

The Seahawks selected Price 32nd overall in the 2026 draft to help replace the production lost when Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III signed as a free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Price’s NFL career has gotten off to a rocky start as he sat out much of camp with a lower body injury and did not play in preseason games.

He has played in all three regular-season games, leading the Seahawks with 119 yards on 28 carries, 4.3 per attempt. But he has lost fumbles in each of the last two games and was benched for much of the first half in Sunday’s 33-31 loss at Washington after losing a fumble on the second series of the game. He played 19 snaps, with 15 yards on five carries — 11 on his first carry of the game.

If Price can’t play, then Wilson — who signed a one-year deal in March as a free agent after spending the last three years in Green Bay — would likely get the start.

Wilson, listed at 5-foot,10, 226-pounds, is generally billed as being more of a between-the-tackles runner than Price. Wilson has 109 yards on 32 carries this season, including 92 on 21 against Arizona when he got much of the work in the fourth quarter after Price was sidelined.

Holani, who has played mostly as the third-down, two-minute back in his career, has also been battling a rip injury that has had him limited in practice this week. He has 52 yards on 15 carries.

As for Charbonnet, Macdonald said he is not yet ready to put a timetable for when he may return.

“He looks fantastic,” Macdonald said of how Charbonnet practiced on Thursday and Friday. “But there’s just a process to get him physically and mentally ready to go and we understand that and we’ll work with him and make sure he feels great when the time comes for him to come back.”

Love set to play

In better news, starting safety Julian Love — who missed the Washington game with a calf injury — was given no injury designation and is set to play this week.

Macdonald said Love “had a good week of practice.”

Ty Okada, who entered the season projected to start at the other safety spot but has not played due to a hamstring injury, again practiced on a limited basis Friday and was listed as questionable and has a chance to play.

The Seahawks also listed linebacker and special teamer Chazz Surratt as questionable. But everyone else is good to go.
