WANA, April 29: At least five civilians, including four children and one woman, were seriously injured after mortar shells fired from across the Afghan border struck a residential area in Angoor Adda, South Waziristan, according to security sources on Tuesday. Sources said the shells were allegedly fired by Afghan Taliban forces and landed on the house of local residents Karim Khan and Rahmatullah in the border area adjacent to Angoor Adda. The injured were immediately shifted to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Wana for medical treatment. Security officials described the incident as an unprovoked attack on the civilian population. They said a similar incident had taken place a few days earlier in the same area, where three people were injured due to firing from across the border. Monitoring Desk: Tensions have escalated once again along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border after a deadly incident in the Chaman sector, where Pakistani officials and local residents said that cross-border mortar fire from the Afghan side struck a civilian area, killing one person and seriously injuring another. According to information circulated by Pakistani security-linked sources, the victim was identified son of Dost Muhammad resident of Chaman. His brother was also reported wounded in the incident. Residents said their home was severely damaged and caught fire after being hit by mortar shells. “Our house was completely destroyed by mortar fire,” one resident said in statements shared locally.
