Russia’s Investigative Committee said it had opened a probe into the “murder” of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.

The attack appeared to be the latest targeted assassination of senior military officials inside Russia’s borders.

Fanil Sarvarov was the head of the armed forces' operational training department, Russia's Investigative Committee said.
