A man who authorities say staked out Donald Trump for 12 hours on his golf course in Florida and wrote of his desire to kill him has been indicted on charges that he attempted to assassinate the former president.

The new federal indictment in Florida comes on top of two gun charges against Ryan W. Routh, an itinerant contractor with an extensive criminal record.

Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Federal prosecutors charged Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, with the attempted assassination of a major presidential candidate Tuesday in the U.S.District Court for Southern Florida.

Ryan Wesley Routh had been initially charged with two federal firearms offences.
