The army has not charged Mr Soyombo but they said he and other suspects were undergoing preliminary investigation.

The army’s statement came in response to public condemnation over Soyombo’s detention.

Nigerian Army claimed investigative journalist and publisher of FIJ, Fisayo Soyombo, was arrested in relation to investigations into oil theft in the Niger Delta.

The FIJ, which Mr Soyombo leads, had on Friday raised the alarm that the journalist was arrested by troops from the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army.
