Ukrainian journalist Viktoriia Roshchyna who chronicled Russian occupation, has died in prison. She was 27.

Viktoriia Roshchyna had been detained last year while reporting in Russian-occupied Ukraine.

The reporter was well known in Ukraine for her reporting detailing first-hand accounts of the Russian occupation of Crimea.

Ukrainian journalist Viktoria Roshchyna has been confirmed dead while in Russian captivity, as reported by Ukrainian authorities on October 10. The confirmation came from Petro Yatsenko, a representative of Ukraine’s Coordination Staff for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, following an internal investigation into her disappearance.

Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Reporters Without Borders on Thursday demanded Ukrainian freelance journalist Victoria Roshchyna's death in Russian captivity be investigated. A letter to her family from Russia's Defense Ministry said she died Sept 19.
