The Israeli military and Hezbollah report ground combat inside southern Lebanon.

BEIRUT, Lebanon, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- Hezbollah fighters engaged in clashes with Israeli soldiers who advanced into two border towns in southern Lebanon, killing eight Israeli soldiers and wounding five others, Hezbollah and Israeli Army reported Wednesday.

Israel's military announced Wednesday that eight soldiers have died during "combat in southern Lebanon" as troops are wiping out Hezbollah infrastructure.

The Israeli Army named its first casualty: Captain Eitan Itzhak Oster, 22, who was killed in Lebanon after clashes with Hezbollah fighters. Hezbollah said its fighters were engaging Israeli forces inside Lebanon on Wednesday, a day after Israel was attacked by Iran in a massive missile barrage.

Capt. Eitan Itzhak Oster, of Israel's elite Egoz Commando Unit, died in combat in an undisclosed village in southern Lebanon.
