A total of 97 Myanmar nationals who had completed their prison sentences in Thailand have been repatriated to Kawthaung, Myanmar. The Myanmar migrant workers arrived in Kawthaung from Ranong, Thailand, on September 10. Officials welcomed them, conducted the necessary checks, and made arrangements for them to return to their respective hometowns. The group comprised 80 men and 17 women who had served sentences in 14 provinces in southern Thailand.

Myanmar will repatriate 1,476 of its nationals detained in Malaysia on Sept. 28 and 29, after an earlier plan for Aug. 27 and 28 was postponed at Malaysia’s request, the Ministry of Information said. The Myanmar nationals had been detained at immigration detention centres after serving penalties for illegal residence and other immigration violations. The two governments had been coordinating their return aboard Myanmar military vessels.
