The Ayeyawady Region Government has issued an emergency notice urging residents to evacuate and remain on high alert after a breach in the Ngawun Dam raised the risk of flooding in Laymyethna Township and surrounding areas. According to the regional government, at around 10:45 pm on July 30, the force of the river current caused an approximately 20-foot breach in the Ngawun Dam embankment, allowing river water to flow into the protected area to a depth of about 2.5 feet.

The collapse of the Ngawun Dam has sent floodwaters into Laymyethna town, forcing residents to evacuate as urgent rescue efforts continue for people stranded in surrounding villages. A local teacher described the situation on Friday morning, saying, "Floodwaters have reached the town, and the main road is underwater. Schools have been closed. There are still people trapped in the villages, and they need to be evacuated immediately."

Reports have emerged that an embankment near Laymyethna in Ayeyawady Region has breached, prompting some local residents to move to safer areas. According to a resident of Laymyethna, the reported breach occurred between Myitkywa and Ma Thae Kone, about 1.5 miles from the town and near Kyun Tan, Myitkywa and Ward No. 5. “People heard this evening that the embankment had breached despite efforts by officials to protect the weak section. Residents are moving to safer places,” the resident said.
