Myanmar's Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) has issued a red alert after a well-marked low-pressure area over the northern Andaman Sea intensified into a depression on September 28. Located about 50 nautical miles south of Mawlamyine, the system is packing sustained winds of 35 mph and moving north-northwest. The DMH forecasts the system will strengthen into a deep depression within 12 hours, making landfall between Thongwa (Yangon Region) and Kyaikto (Mon State). It is projected to track inland across Yangon, Bago, and Magway regions over the next 36 hours.
