Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te on Thursday vowed to defend the self-ruled island’s sovereignty in the face of China’s “expansionist ambitions,” days after Beijing wrapped up live-fire military drills around the island.

TAIPEI/BEIJING >> China fired ‌rockets into waters off Taiwan today, showcased new assault ships and dismissed prospects of U.S. and allied intervention to block any ‌future attack by Beijing to take control of the island in its most extensive war games to date.

The two-day war games, code-named "Justice Mission 2025", have been slammed by Taipei as "military intimidation" by Beijing.
