Storm chaser Ashton Lemley heard the meow of a kitten pierce the darkness — and ended up making an unexpected rescue in the aftermath of a Mississippi tornado.

The homes were flattened just hours earlier as storms spawned at least three tornadoes across the bottom half of Mississippi, injuring a dozen.
