A volcanic eruption killed three people and triggered a rescue operation to get more than a dozen hikers stranded near the crater of Indonesia’s Mount Dukono to safety on Friday morning.

May 8 (UPI) -- At least three people were reported dead and several others injured after Indonesia's Mount Dukono erupted Friday morning, according to officials who said a search was continuing for climbers caught on the mountain's slopes.

Three hikers have died in an eruption of Indonesia's Mount Dukono volcano, officials said.
