US President Joe Biden said a Lebanon truce would take effect today, after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said a ceasefire with Hezbollah would allow Israel to focus its attention on Hamas and arch-enemy Iran.

The Israeli Cabinet this evening (Tuesday) approved a ceasefire deal brokered by the US in Lebanon, to go into effect at 4:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Questions remain over whether a truce can bring lasting stability to the volatile Lebanon-Israel border, writes Firas Maksad.
