Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan signed a defense agreement on Friday that would treat an attack on one as an attack on all three, officials said.

Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Officials from Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan signed a new defense pact on Friday, setting new stakes for conflict in the Middle East.

Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement in Mecca on Friday. The pact deepens collective security cooperation amid rising tensions across West Asia.

The mutual defence aspect of the deal resembles Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, the basis for the Nato alliance.
