Manchester United and Tottenham put on red alert as Christian Eriksen spurns Brentford contract extension
by Lee Davey · talkSPORTManchester United and Tottenham have been boosted by the news that Christian Eriksen has reportedly turned down a contract extension from Brentford.
The Danish midfielder made a miraculous return to football in January following a cardiac arrest whilst representing Denmark at last summer’s Euros.
Eriksen’s contract was subsequently terminated by former club Inter Milan as he was not permitted to play in Serie A due to having a defibrillator implanted.
Eriksen moved to newly-promoted Premier League side Brentford in January and immediately looked like his old self with an array of sparkling performances, helping the club secure top-flight survival.
The Dane scored once and provided four assists during his six-month spell in west London leading to a host of clubs keeping tabs on the 30-year-old.
Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla has revealed that Eriksen has turned down an offer to extend his stay with the Bees.
Pedulla states that the Dane is angling for a move to a Champions League club although he is keen to remain a Premier League player.
Despite failing to qualify for next season’s Champions League, Manchester United remain interested in luring free agent Eriksen to Old Trafford.

New United boss Erik ten Hag is looking to bolster his midfield options following the impending exits of Juan Mata, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Nemanja Matic.
Further reinforcements in this area would provide a welcome boost to the Dutchman as he embarks on a huge summer overhaul of the squad.
With United only managing to qualify for the Europa League, it could impact Eriksen’s decision on his future.
It could also open the door for Eriksen’s former side Tottenham who are interested in re-signing the midfielder, and can offer the player Champions League football next term.
Spurs boss Antonio Conte worked with Eriksen at Inter Milan and would mean the Danish international would not have to uproot his family from London.
