Liverpool and Newcastle backroom staff are charged by FA for improper conduct following Fabio Carvalho’s stoppage time winner at Anfield

The incident came in the dying moments of the Premier League clash when Fabio Carvalho netted a winner in a 2-1 victory for Jurgen Klopp’s side eight minutes into stoppage time.

This led to outrage in the Magpies’ camp given that just five minutes of injury time were signaled to be played.

Newcastle’s head of performance Dan Hodges, defender Fabian Schar and Liverpool’s goalkeeping coach John Achterberg who was seen sticking two fingers up at the Newcastle bench clashed, while a bottle was allegedly thrown at the Liverpool bench.
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe said after the game that he had no issue with his bench’s reaction at full-time, however following an FA review, Hodges and Achterberg have been charged with breaching FA Rule E3.
The rule states that clubs must ‘not act in any manner which is improper or brings the game into disrepute or use any one, or a combination of, violent conduct, serious foul play, threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting words or behaviour’.
Confirming the charges, an FA statement read: “Coaches from Liverpool FC and Newcastle United FC have been charged with breaching FA Rule E3 during their Premier League fixture on Sunday 31 August 2022.

“It is alleged that the behaviour of John Achterberg and Daniel Hodges in the 98th minute of that game was improper, and that the Liverpool coach also used abusive and/or insulting gestures.
