Erling Haaland loves Champions League so much he has theme as his ringtone and Man City star could add to impressive record that beats Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester City begin their push to finally secure their first ever Champions League on Tuesday night – live on talkSPORT.

And Erling Haaland is undoubtedly going to be a huge help in their bid for European glory, especially considering he loves the competition so much that he has its theme song as his ringtone.

After making the £51million move from Germany over the England at the start of the summer, the striker confirmed he’d had the tournament’s famous tune as his ringtone for sometime.

“Yeah, it still is!” he said in his first City interview.

“I always like the Champions League and it is a bit more special in my eyes.”

So far, winning the Champions League is the only silverware that has evaded Manchester City since their rise to the top of English football, losing the 2021 final to Chelsea.

But after scoring a ridiculously impressive 10 goals in six games since his introduction to the Premier League this season, Haaland is bound to be a huge help in his side’s run in the Champions League, starting with the game against Sevilla.

But it’s the Norwegian’s record in the competition that will really be giving City boss Pep Guardiola hope that his new goalscorer could make the difference this season.

The 22-year-old netted 23 goals in 19 UEFA Champions League appearances during his time at RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund.

That’s the best goals to game ratio of any player in the competition’s history with 0.83.

Haaland’s goals to game ratio betters both football icons Cristiano Ronaldo (0.77) and Lionel Messi (0.8) who are, respectively, the top two goalscorers in the competions history.

Messi and Ronaldo are two of the greatest ever but Haaland’s record means he could go on to better them both in the Champions League

Overall, it’s been a goal every 63 minutes for the Norwegian nightmare with Ronaldo only managing one every 114 minutes, and Messi one every 104.

In addition to this, four of those goals have been against Tuesday’s opponents Sevilla – an even better omen for City.

You can hear Sevilla vs Man City in the Champions League live on talkSPORT from 8pm on Tuesdy night.
