Simon Jordan and Trevor Sinclair clash following former Liverpool starlet Bobby Duncan’s reply to ex-intermediary Saif Rubie’s talkSPORT claims

Simon Jordan believes ex-Liverpool youngster Bobby Duncan was too young to know former agent Saif Rubie did ‘not care’ about his career.

Rubie had a fiery exchange with the talkSPORT co-host and former Crystal Palace chairman on Monday’s White and Jordan show, as the pair clashed over a number of issues such as Antonio Rudiger’s move from Chelsea to Real Madrid.

And his bite back at former agent Rubie sparked debate between Jordan and SinclairtalkSPORT

The intermediary most famously came into focus when overseeing Duncan’s messy exit from Liverpool, which saw him leave for Italian club Fiorentina’s youth set-up in 2019.

The youngster’s departure saw a number of claims from Rubie that included Duncan being unhappy and that he was being kept at the club against his will.

It provoked the ire of club legend Jamie Carragher, who got caught up in a war of words on Twitter with Rubie.

And when he claimed on talkSPORT that he’d advised Duncan to stay at the club despite the accusations, the youngster hit back, telling Rubie he’d ruined his career.

The 21-year-old – who now players in the third division of Spanish football – tweeted: “You and I both know the truth.

“I didn’t have a decision nor say as you took it upon yourself to jeopardise my career and to turn a local lad away from his boyhood club and leave me and my family to pick up all the pieces.”

And Duncan’s bite back has led talkSPORT’s Simon Jordan and Trevor Sinclair to have two differing opinions on the situation, with Sinclair questioning why Duncan – a cousin of Steven Gerrard – didn’t just get rid of Rubie.

Sinclair: “He had, Bobby Duncan, when he was at Manchester City, he then went from Manchester City to Liverpool, so he’s got an experience with him.

“At what stage does Bobby Duncan look at himself and think ‘this intermediary is not doing me any good’.

“You only can sign a two-year contract at some stage, at some stage when that contract come to expire he must say ‘you know what’.”

Jordan: “But he doesn’t, he’s a boy!”

Sinclair: “So what? You know the law of the land and you know what’s happening.”

Jordan: “No, Trevor, he’s a boy!”

Sinclair: “If things aren’t going well and he’s creating more problems for you than he should be, you have to drop him.”

Jordan: “You footballers live in your little world and then when you get out to the real world, a lot of you can’t cope.

“He’s a boy at 18! Some of you guys who come out of the game at 35 don’t know how the real world hangs together.

“I’m not excusing the ridiculous choices that he and his family might have compounded.”

Jordan’s experience at Crystal Palace has led him to sympathise with Duncan

Sinclair: “It doesn’t make sense.”

Jordan: “Trevor, if you don’t know better, you don’t know better. He was entitled to better advice from a so-called expert, who’s got his best interests at heart.

“And what I push back against, and what I feel so passionately about – and people think I’ve got this problem with players, ask any player that played for me with a few exceptions – I cared about my players, I wanted the best for them.

“And I feel so passionately about how agents get involved with young kids and they do not care.”
