Well, folks, both Wordle and I are entering into a new year.

Wordle turned 1 this past Sunday. I turned 41 the very next day. I feel super old typing that.

It doesn’t help that I’ve had COVID for the past week—which has mostly felt like a bad cold with an extra side of headaches. I suppose the big difference is not being able to go anywhere. Then again, I’m a recluse to begin with so not leaving the house suits me just fine.

Alright, let’s take a look at today’s Wordle. Scroll below for the hint and solution, or read on if you need a primer on the way Wordle works.

How To Play Wordle

Wordle is a pretty straightforward game. First, head to the game’s homepage at the New York Times (it’s not an app on the App Store or Google Play, though there are many imitators).

Once here, you’ll find six rows of five boxes. These represent your six guesses. Type in a word and hit ‘Enter’ and any correct letters you get will show up in colored boxes: Green if it’s in the right spot, yellow if it’s in the wrong spot. If a box is grey that means the letter is not in the solution.

As always, spoilers ahead. You’ve been warned.

Today’s hint: To brag.

And the answer is . . . .

Hahaha I am the best at this game! Nobody is better at Wordle than me! I am the king of Wordling! The greatest Wordler of all time!

See, I’m gloating. One must gloat when gloat is the Wordle answer of the day. It’s better than being bloated which was the other option I almost guessed. I got lucky, though getting the word on guess #5 wouldn’t have been the end of the world.

Just less gloat-worthy.

I started with plate because it seemed like a good starting word and because I’d just done the dishes and was feeling like I still had a lot on my plate.

Once I had those letters I just couldn’t think of anything better than altar even though I didn’t love that as my second guess. As Wordle Bot later reminded me, float would have been better. Hey, at least that was guess #3!

Have a great day, dearest Wordlers! Hopefully you can get some gloating in. Well, humorously in any case. Nobody likes a bragger. Maybe a humble brag or two would suffice.
