Ustaad Bhagat Singh in US: Producer to Lose Money

by · greatandhra.com

The weekend has not yet been completed, with Sunday collections still left for “Ustaad Bhagat Singh”. However, we can safely give a verdict for the film, at least in North America.

The film goes down in Pawan Kalyan’s career as the first one to not even gross $1 million. In the past, he has had films that grossed $3 million, and some even collected $1.5 million from premiere shows alone.

“Ustaad Bhagat Singh” will barely touch the $1 million mark by the end of its lifetime run. The first weekend gross, including Sunday, is likely to be in the range of $700K+.

Even if it manages to touch $1 million, it will still end up as a huge loss for production house Mythri Movie Makers.

The banner had expected the film to gross at least $2 million by the end of its run. To their shock, the film is now heading towards a finish closer to $1 million.

The production house valued the North American rights at Rs 12 crore and released the film through a distribution company. However, it is effectively their own release, with the distributor handling it on a commission basis.

As a result, the losses in North America will largely be borne by the production house.
