Breaking: Reps extend 2025 budget implementation to December 2026
by Adenle Ahmed Abiola · The Eagle OnlineThe House of Representatives has approved yet another extension of the implementation period for capital projects and expenditures under the 2025 Appropriation Act, shifting the deadline from September 30, 2026, to December 31, 2026.
This decision, passed alongside a concurrent extension by the Senate, marks the fourth time the timeline for the 2025 Appropriation Act has been modified.
The extension followed an executive request from President Bola Tinubu to ensure that critical ongoing infrastructure projects are completed without funding roadblocks.
The original deadline of December 31, 2025, was first moved to March 31, 2026, before being extended to June 30 and subsequently September 30, 2026.

The amendment bill was considered and passed by lawmakers through accelerated readings during plenary.
The extension was aimed at ensuring that ongoing capital projects are not abandoned as a result of funding and implementation challenges.
Following the approval, federal ministries, departments and agencies now have until December 31, 2026, to utilise and execute capital allocations provided under the 2025 Appropriation Act.
