Nigeria’s Ambassador Lola Akande presents Letters of Credence to King of Sweden
by Adenle Ahmed Abiola · The Eagle OnlineNigeria’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Sweden, Her Excellency Ambassador Lola Akande, on Wednesday marked the formal commencement of her diplomatic duties as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Sweden by formally presenting her Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf, King of Sweden.
The colourful ceremony was conducted with the pageantry and traditions associated with the presentation of credentials in Sweden.
Ambassador Akande was accorded ceremonial honours, including a corps marshall and formal procession, as she proceeded to the Royal Palace for the presentation of her Letters of Credence to His Majesty the King.
The ceremony formally received her as Nigeria’s accredited representative to the Kingdom of Sweden and marked an important milestone in diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Following the ceremony at the Kings Palace, a reception was held in Ambassador Akande’s honour at the Nigerian House in Stockholm, drawing a distinguished and diverse gathering of guests.
The reception was attended by Ambassadors and other members of the African diplomatic community, officials of the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, members of the Corps of African Women Ambassadors, Nigerian nationals resident in Sweden, Swedish nationals, members of the Swedish business community and other invited guests.

The occasion provided an opportunity to celebrate Ambassador Akande’s formal accreditation while also underscoring the longstanding diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Sweden and the prospects for expanding cooperation in areas including trade and investment, innovation, cultural exchange and people-to-people relations.
Ambassador Akande’s accreditation opens a new chapter in Nigeria–Sweden diplomatic engagement, with expectations of strengthened bilateral cooperation and deeper engagement with the Nigerian community and relevant stakeholders in Sweden.
