NIS extends UK passport intervention as 1,477 Nigerians enrol
by Moronfolu Adeyemi · The Eagle OnlineThe Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has extended its Special Passport Intervention Exercise in the United Kingdom to October 3, 2026, following a high turnout of applicants in London and Manchester.
The exercise, which was initially scheduled to end on September 19, will now continue at both centres to provide additional capacity and enable more eligible Nigerians to access the service.
The NIS Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, disclosed this in a statement posted on the service’s X handle on Friday.
According to the service, 1,477 Nigerians were successfully processed and enrolled within the first four days of the exercise, with more than half already having their passports produced and dispatched to their respective addresses.
The extension was approved under the directive of the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in response to the high turnout and increasing demand for the intervention.
The NIS said: “In line with NIS commitment to an orderly and transparent process, eligible applicants are required to book appointments for the special intervention exercise via the website of the High Commission of Nigeria, United Kingdom.”
Applicants are expected to present a completed application form and payment receipt, appointment slip, current passport where applicable, and a self-addressed return envelope at their scheduled appointments.

The Service reiterated that passport application and payment processes are fully automated and strictly cashless.
The applicable fees remain $162 for a five-year validity passport booklet and $242 for a 10-year validity booklet.
The NIS stressed: “No additional charges are required to participate in the intervention exercise.”
The Service said further information on the extended dates, participating locations and appointment procedures would be communicated through its official channels and those of the High Commission of Nigeria in the United Kingdom.
The NIS thanked Nigerians in the UK for their patience and cooperation, assuring them of its commitment to providing efficient, transparent and responsive passport services to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora.
