Former Manchester United manager, Rúben Amorim, has verbally agreed with AC Milan to become the club’s new head coach.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano on X on Monday, Manager Amorim has accepted all conditions presented by the Italian side.

“Rúben Amorim to AC Milan as new head coach, HERE WE GO! 🇵🇹

“Verbal agreement done on deal valid until June 2028 plus option until June 2029.

“Amorim has accepted all conditions and will sign this week as new Milan manager,” Fabrizio wrote.

The Eagle Online learnt that all paperwork is expected to be finalized in the coming days, with Amorim flying to Italy to sign his contract and tour the facilities.

The Portuguese manager is stepping in to succeed Massimiliano Allegri, who was sacked in May after a late-season collapse caused Milan to finish fifth and miss out on the Champions League.

This is the 41-year-old’s first managerial role since his difficult 14-month stint at Manchester United ended with a sacking in January 2026.

This appointment is a major financial relief for Manchester United, who had set aside £15.9 million (€18.4 million) in severance compensation.

Coincidentally, Amorim will face his former team almost immediately.

AC Milan is scheduled to play Manchester United in a high-profile pre-season friendly in Wrocław, Poland on August 15, 2026.
