Four confirmed dead, 10 injured in Osun road crash

A tragic automobile crash that occurred on Thursday evening along the Ilesa/Akure expressway at Omi Asoro Junction Ilesa, Osun State, has resulted in the deaths of four persons and left 10 others severely injured.

The incident which occurred around 9pm, involved a Toyota Privia commercial vehicle and a Suzuki mini-bus.

Details of how the crash occurred were not immediately available, but sources close to the scene said the Privia bus was heading to the Eastern part of the country with goods including phone accessories and electronic appliances while the mini-bus was operating within the community.

A trader near the scene, identified simply as Tobi, said the bus involved was heading towards the Akure end of the road.

He also added that the accident occurred when the bus carrying phone accessories and electronic appliances collided with an intra-city mini-bus operating within Ilesa metropolis around 9pm at Omi Asoro junction.

The Osun Sector Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Agnes Ogungbemi, confirmed the crash in a chat with journalists on Friday.

While giving official details regarding the accident, Ogungbemi, said three passengers died at the scene, while another passenger was confirmed dead on Friday.

“Four people died while 10 others sustained injuries. Three of the victims, two male adults and a female child, died instantly.

“Another passenger died this morning. The remains of the deceased have been taken to Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa.

“Those injured include 7 adults and 3 children. The accident involved a Toyota Hiace commercial vehicle and a Suzuki commercial mini-bus.

“The driver of the mini-bus had no driver’s licence,” Ogungbemi said.
