Just in: AFCON qualifiers: Super Eagles defeat Madagascar 2-1 in Uyo
by Moronfolu Adeyemi · The Eagle OnlineNigeria defeated Madagascar 2-1 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday to begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign with a victory.
The Group L encounter ended 1-1 at half-time before the Super Eagles scored the decisive goal in the second half to secure all three points.
George Ilenikhena scored Nigeria’s equaliser on his debut after Madagascar had taken the lead, ensuring the two sides went into the break level.
Nigeria then found the winning goal after the interval to complete the comeback and secure victory on home soil.
Usor Moses picked up the ball inside Nigeria’s half, drove past two Madagascar defenders and calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to put the Super Eagles ahead.

The result leaves Nigeria second in Group L with three points, behind Guinea-Bissau, who sit top of the table.
The Super Eagles will face Guinea-Bissau in their next Group L fixture on Tuesday, September 29, in what will be Nigeria’s second match of the qualifying campaign.
