FirstBank claims Nigeria’s strongest brand

FirstBank has emerged as Nigeria’s strongest brand in the “Nigeria 25 2026” ranking by Brand Finance.

The recognition of the oldest bank in the country was announced in a statement issued by the bank on Wednesday in Lagos.

The statement said FirstBank earned an AAA+ rating, the highest distinction awarded for exceptional brand strength and market leadership.

Brand Finance evaluates brands annually using metrics including brand investment, equity, and overall business performance across several industries.

According to the report, FirstBank recorded a Brand Strength Index score of 92.2 percent, reflecting rising brand value and customer confidence.

The Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, Olayinka Ijabiyi, described the recognition as a reflection of customers’ enduring trust in the bank.

“It reflects the enduring trust of customers and our employees’ unwavering commitment to delivering excellence,” Ijabiyi said.

He said FirstBank had delivered best-in-class financial services to individuals, SMEs, and corporates for 132 years.

He added that the bank remained committed to financial inclusion and sustainable growth through innovative financial solutions.

“We are proud to be Nigeria’s strongest brand and will continue empowering individuals and businesses through innovation,” he said.

The Managing Director of Brand Finance Nigeria, Babatunde Odumeru, said the ranking highlighted the relevance of long-established institutions adapting to change.

“In this environment, brands that combine relevance with execution will be best placed to sustain long-term value,” Odumeru said.
