Greece To Build Seven New Coast Guard Patrol Boats
by Kosta Papadopoulos · Greek City TimesGreece has signed a €23.8 million contract to acquire seven new high-speed patrol boats for the Hellenic Coast Guard, with the vessels set to be built domestically to strengthen surveillance and operational capabilities in Greek waters.
Shipping and Island Policy Minister Vassilis Kikilias signed the agreement on Wednesday at a special event at the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy.
The contract covers seven MAGNAR 1950 patrol boats, each measuring 21.29 metres in length. Viking Life-Saving Equipment Hellas will supply the vessels, which will be constructed in Greece. The agreement also provides an option to acquire up to seven additional boats of the same type in the future.

He also emphasised the importance of building the vessels in Greece, saying the decision would support the country’s shipbuilding industry.
The new patrol boats will be capable of reaching speeds of at least 50 knots and covering distances of at least 320 nautical miles, enhancing the Coast Guard’s ability to patrol Greek seas.
The procurement will receive funding from the Public Investment Development Programme through the co-funded Fisheries, Aquaculture and the Sea 2021–2027 programme.
