Greece Records €2.1 Billion Primary Surplus Through August 2026

Greece recorded a €2.1 billion primary surplus on a cash basis in the first eight months of 2026, down from €7.8 billion in the same period last year.

According to data from the Bank of Greece, the cash result of central government recorded a €4.625 billion deficitbetween January and August 2026, compared with a €1.723 billion surplus in the corresponding period of 2025.

During the same period, regular budget revenue reached €49.207 billion, up from €46.697 billion a year earlier.

Regular budget expenditure also increased, reaching €47.313 billion compared with €42.189 billion in January-August 2025.

The Budget’s interest expenditure rose to €6.7 billion, from €6.1 billion during the corresponding period last year.
