by Kosta Papadopoulos · Greek City TimesGreek Minister of National Economy and Finance and Eurogroup President Kyriakos Pierrakakis served as best man alongside his wife, Dimitra, at the wedding of Romanian Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare and Maria Mihali in Bucharest on Sunday.
The couple married in an intimate ceremony attended by close family members, friends and colleagues at the historic Cașin Church, one of the Romanian capital’s landmark churches.
Pierrakakis and his wife served as the couple’s wedding sponsors. Because of the Greek couple’s role in the ceremony, significant parts of the religious service also took place in Greek, giving the wedding a distinctive Greek character.
The wedding attracted attention from Romanian and European media, with journalists, photographers and television crews gathering outside the church to record the arrival of the newlyweds, the best man and his wife, and the invited guests.
The two finance ministers share a close working relationship at European level as well as a personal friendship that has lasted for many years.
A wedding reception will follow the religious ceremony, with family members, friends and invited guests expected to attend. Romanian President Nicușor Dan is also expected to attend the dinner, according to reports.
