Greece’s popular retail chain Jumbo is preparing to open its first Canadian store at Vaughan Mills in Vaughan, Ontario, bringing toys, school supplies, clothes, seasonal décor and home goods to the Greater Toronto Area.

The store will occupy the former Toys “R” Us space near Entrance 3, next to HomeSense and Pro Hockey Life. The site is expected to cover about 110,000 square feet. The mall is already displaying “Jumbo Coming Soon” signage. No official opening date has been announced.

First stop in a wider Canadian rollout

The Vaughan Mills location marks Jumbo’s entry into Canada and the start of a planned expansion of five to 10 stores across the country in the first three years. Ontario is the launch market.

The Canadian stores will be operated by Fox Group Jumbo Canada under a franchise arrangement with the Greek retailer. Fox Group already runs several retail banners in Canada.

Jumbo, founded in Athens in 1986, is one of Greece’s best-known value retailers, with corporate stores in Greece, Bulgaria, Romania and Cyprus and franchise operations in several other countries.

For Greek-Canadian shoppers in the GTA, the Vaughan store will be the first chance to browse a Jumbo hyperstore without a trip to Greece.
