Kilkis Municipality to Pay €1,000 for Every Newborn

by · Greek City Times

The Municipality of Kilkis in northern Greece will provide a one-off, tax-free payment of €1,000 for every child born from January 1, 2027, to support families and encourage couples to have children.

The financial assistance will go to permanent residents and registered municipal citizens of Kilkis, regardless of income. The municipality will also exclude the payment from income calculations used to determine eligibility for other social welfare benefits.

According to a municipal announcement, the measure aims to provide practical support to families, encourage young couples to start a family and ease the financial burden on parents during the first months after a child’s birth.

Eligible recipients will include married couples, couples who have registered a cohabitation agreement and single-parent families, provided they meet the municipality’s residency and registration requirements.

The municipality will pay the €1,000 benefit as a lump sum for each newborn, with the scheme scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2027.
