Naval Group Signs Major Contracts with Greek Defence Companies

by · Greek City Times

French defence company Naval Group has signed 10 contracts with Greek defence companies and two research and development cooperation agreements, expanding Greek industry’s participation in its international supply chain and the construction of FDI frigates.

The agreements, signed in Paris, were announced at the Greek Pavilion of the Hellenic Manufacturers of Defence Material Association (SEKPY) during the Euronaval 2026 international exhibition.

“The new agreements with Naval Group confirm that the Greek defence industry can claim a meaningful role in major defence procurement programmes,” SEKPY President Tasos Rozolis told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA) in an exclusive interview.

Rozolis said each new contract brought Greece closer to its strategic target of securing at least 25% domestic industrial participation in major defence programmes.

“We want this target to be reflected in the construction of the fourth FDI frigate, Themistocles, for the Hellenic Navy,” he explained.

He stressed that cooperation with Naval Group demonstrated the technical expertise and competitiveness of Greek companies, enabling them to join international supply chains while generating added value, creating jobs and offering significant growth prospects for the Greek economy.

According to SEKPY, the new agreements form part of Naval Group’s Hellenic Industrial Participation (HIP) programme. They cover FDI frigate construction, specialised maintenance and support services, and the development of innovative technologies.

Their signing at the Greek Pavilion during Euronaval 2026 highlights the increasingly active role of Greek businesses in international defence programmes and the potential to strengthen domestic manufacturing, the association said.

Five new contracts for FDI frigate construction

Five agreements cover the manufacture of components and systems for FDI frigates, with Greek companies undertaking specialised production work.

The contracts involve:

  • SALAMIS (Salamis Shipyards): Manufacturing new FDI frigate blocks at its facilities on Salamis Island.
  • METLEN: Manufacturing torpedo doors in Volos.
  • KAFKAS: Manufacturing emergency shutdown electrical panels and electrical distribution boards in Thessaloniki.
  • KASSIDIARIS: Manufacturing propulsion system control panels in Piraeus.
  • B&T COMPOSITES: Developing composite materials activities related to low-pressure prototypes in Florina.

These agreements increase Greek industry’s involvement in the production of modern warships and create further opportunities to utilise domestic technical expertise, SEKPY said.

Five contracts for maintenance and support services

Naval Group also signed five additional contracts with Greek companies for specialised services.

These agreements involve:

  • FOTINAKIS: Welding work and preparation of technical studies.
  • GELASAKIS: Local shipping agency services.
  • HERMES: Supplying mobile cranes for handling heavy equipment.
  • IKRIOMA SKORDILAKIS: Supplying metal scaffolding.
  • MARITA HELLAS: Providing security and firefighting solutions.

PPC INSPECTRA also attended the event. Naval Group had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the company in July 2026 covering laboratory testing, inspection and certification services.

The first work assignments under that cooperation are already underway.

Two MoUs target research and innovation

SEKPY also highlighted the significance of two additional Memoranda of Understanding covering research and development (R&D) in advanced naval defence technologies.

The first agreement involves FEAC and covers underwater warfare technologies, lifecycle system performance, digital twins and signature analysis.

The second agreement involves SOTIRIA Technology and focuses on its expertise in maritime sensors, magnetometers and seabed warfare technologies.

The agreements further expand the involvement of Greek companies in advanced naval defence research and strengthen their prospects of participating in international defence technology programmes.
