Dalit groups march for communal harmony

T. Narasipur: Ahead of the ‘Shobha Yatre’ by Hindu organisations, Dalit groups in T. Narasipur took out a march under the banner ‘walk towards harmony’ yesterday morning.

While Hindu groups have opposed Inspector Dhananjaya’s remarks, Dalit organisations came out in his support, raising slogans against ‘communal’ forces.

Hundreds of people took part in the march, which began at Bhagawan Circle and passed through Link Road, Private Bus Stand Circle and Vidyodaya College Road, before reaching the Taluk Office.

Participants carried portraits of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and raised slogans against causing communal unrest.

Addressing the gathering, Sri Jnanaprakash Swamiji of Urilingapeddi Mutt, Gandhinagar, said the Constitution was supreme and warned that attempts to undermine it would lead to unrest.

Former Mayor Purushotham said that Dalit organisations too had the strength to mobilise people but preferred peace over confrontation.

Dalit leaders, including Bodhi Ratna Banteji and Prof. Jnanaprakash, took part in the march.
