Gowri-Ganesha festival tomorrow: Shoppers throng city markets

Mysuru: With Gowri-Ganesha festivals being celebrated tomorrow (Sept. 14), Devaraja, Mandi and Vani Vilas Markets, readymade garments and textiles showrooms witnessed heavy rush this morning as shoppers are making last-minute purchases for the festival.

Prices of flowers, fruits and vegetables have increased with Chrysanthemum (Sevanthige) being sold between Rs. 100 and Rs. 120 per standard length, Mysuru Mallige Rs. 300 for 250 grams, Kanakambra Rs. 100 for 100 grams, Kakada Rs. 100 for 100 grams, Marigold Rs. 80 to Rs. 100 per kg, Rose Rs. 30 to Rs. 40 each, lotus Rs. 30 to Rs. 40 a pair and banana stem Rs. 30 to Rs. 50 a pair.

Fruits such as apple are being sold between Rs. 280 to Rs. 300 per kg, pomegranate Rs. 250 to Rs. 300 per kg, pineapple Rs. 60 to Rs. 80 per kg and elakki banana is being sold between Rs. 100 and Rs. 150 per kg. Coconut is being sold between Rs. 30 and Rs. 40 each depending on the size.

Decorative items like flowers and door hangings, saffron flags and shawls with the image of Lord Ganesha, are in demand. Women were seen busy buying puja articles. Shops selling clay idols of Gowri and Ganesha were doing brisk business. The rates of vegetables were on the higher side making people go choosy to pick the affordable ones.
