Huge emergency response in North Shields street with house cordoned off

Emergency services swarmed a North Shields street with a house cordoned off as part of an ongoing investigation.

A huge emergency response, including a large police presence, descended on Front Street in the Chirton area of North Shields on Sunday afternoon.

Four police vehicles including two cars, a van and a specialist search team remained at the scene for several hours.

A police cordon was erected over a section of road and pavement, with a property cordoned off. A red and white fire cordon has also been placed across the gateway, blocking entrance to the property.

Officers were seen guarding the taped off area. Emergency services left the scene at around 3pm on Sunday with the cordons taken down.

The nature of the incident is currently unknown, We have approached Northumbria Police, the North East Ambulance Service and Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue for comment.
