Plate Day 2026 arrivals in 21 stylish shots as crowds head into Newcastle Racecourse
by Simon Duke, Simon Greener · ChronicleLivePlate Day got off to a scorcher at Newcastle Racecourse on Saturday and it wasn't just the temperatures that heated things up. As soon as gates opened up at Gosforth Park the glamorous girls and well dressed lads started making their way in, dressed to the nines to have a flutter.
Come rain or shine, the Geordie faithful can always be relied onto to look the part and, even with this year's dress code relaxed - with shorts permitted due to the hot weather - there was certainly no slip in standards when it came to the Plate Day fashion. Just as we've come to expect, as soon as gates to the Racecourse opened at 11.30am, the stunning looks started to flood in.
There was a bit of a breeze in the air early doors, but that didn't stop the girls donning all manner of eye-catching headwear, from huge hats to fabulously designed fascinators. And the lads didn't let the side down either, with them all looking sharp as well as they headed in. There was added incentive for everyone to get in early, as for the first hour only there were half price drinks offers across a range of tipples, from beer to prosecco.
Racing for Plate Day was due to get going just over 2 hours after doors opened, with the big one - the JenningsBet Northumberland Plate - due off at 3.15pm. And everyone who headed along on Saturday needed to have their dancing shoes on as, once the final horse had passed the post, over 30s daytime disco sensations Day Fever were due on stage to lead the post-racing entertainment.
But for now, check our our photos of the best dressed arrivals at Plate Day 2026.
