32 photos as student shopping event returns to Newcastle's Eldon Square

Take a look at a series of 32 photos, as the student shopping event returned to Newcastle's Eldon Square for 2026. The Student Takeover on Monday saw some brands give out freebies, as well as offering freebies of up to 50% off.

The city centre shopping centre also hosted live entertainment as part of the free to attend event, giving young people access to deals from fashion and food brands. This included 50% off at Smash Burger and Chit N Chaat, 40% off at Chaophraya, 25% off at Levi’s, and 20% off at Schuh, Hollister and River Island.

On top of that, free Wingstop chicken, Greggs vouchers, matcha, popcorn and candy floss were all available, so people grabbed them while they could. Those visiting were able to take part in several games, with prizes such as a £100 gift card for the shopping centre.

Jet2 was the main sponsor of the event, which started at 2.30pm and finished at 7.30pm, with the airline partnering with Newcastle International Airport to offer students there own exclusive merchandise as an add on to the event's other offerings.
