The preparations for Plate Day are underway at Newcastle Racecourse. Like Ladies Day which follows in July, the finalé of the three-day Northumberland Plate Festival is celebrated in style at Newcastle Racecourse with racegoers turning out in their finery.

This year's Plate Day takes place on June 27 and preparations have been underway this weekend to get everything set up. Gazebos and bars are being built; the course is being watered; and enough tables, chairs and picnic benches for attendees are being placed around the Racecourse.

Organisers expect 15,000 people to pass through the gates over three days. They're expected to go through 600 barrels of beer, 2,500 bottles of prosecco, 600 pizzas, 6,000 bottles of water, 675kg of chips, 3,000 bread rolls and 400 Aperol Trifles.

810kg of ice are expected to be used - though some of that is for the horse's water!
