Deal with Everton seen as ‘emergency solution’ – January sale can unlock it
by Kaustubh Pandey · Sport WitnessLast week, journalist Matteo Moretto floated the idea of a swap deal between Everton and AS Roma involving Artem Dovbyk and Beto.
It was believed that the common Friedkin ownership would help, with both clubs looking to solve goalscoring issues.
Il Messaggero now report those in charge at Roma appreciate Everton’s Beto and his profile. They believe that he fits right into their demands but the move would only be possible if attacking midfielder Tommaso Baldanzi leaves in January.
Hellas Verona have been linked with the Italian for months. Young midfielder Niccolo Pisilli’s future is also likely to have an impact on a move for the Toffees player.
Gazzetta dello Sport also take stock of the scenario. They describe the swap deal between Roma and Everton as an ‘emergency solution’ which would only be considered late in January.
The emergency they refer to is Roma failing to secure their other options. Dovbyk can be sold, with reports claiming he has been offered to English clubs.
That is perhaps why Everton have emerged as a convenient option, especially considering the common ownership.
Despite that, swap deals are uncommon and difficult to execute. If this possibility does emerge late in January, there could be little time left to iron out all the agreements.
