Deal with Tottenham can heat up ‘at any moment’ – Fee and wages deemed affordable

by · Sport Witness

Not too long ago, Inter Milan were keen on signing Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario. It is Juventus who are now looking to make a formal move for the Italian.

Earlier this year, Sport Witness covered how the Nerazzurri were expected to push for the Spurs keeper. They had agreed personal terms with him and sporting director Piero Ausilio met Vicario’s entourage in London too.

These were signs that a deal would go through and everything was heading in the right direction.

Soon, Inter backed out. They are now keen on having Josep Martinez as their first-choice, ruling out the need to sign Vicario.

This doesn’t mean the 29-year-old will stay at Tottenham.

Juve growing keen

Sportmediaset treport that Juve seem to be moving on from two key keeper targets. One was Alisson and the more recent one is Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez.

The player was keen on moving to Turin, but the Villans demand of €15m is causing a hold-up in the deal.

This has given rise to Vicario’s candidacy. His profile has risen through Juve’s shortlist mainly because the Tottenham player earns less than Martinez. While it’s stated Spurs are likely to demand €15m to €20m, Juve will save significantly on the wages front.

The Italy international is also younger and more experienced in Serie A. He is keen on a return to Italy, where he first made a mark at Empoli.

In fact, the outlet feel the deal for Vicario can heat up ‘at any moment’. Luciano Spalletti is keen on getting a signing in that position sorted, having seen the Tottenham man from up close during his time as Italy manager.

Spurs shouldn’t back away from sale

Vicario’s time at Tottenham may be up. Roberto De Zerbi was content to use Antonin Kinsky instead him towards the end of last season, although that was partly fitness related.

Juve can be a natural next step for the keeper. He will return to the top of the Italian game and potentially compete for silverware.

Tottenham paid €20m to sign him in 2023 and he weighs around €8m on their accounts.
