Brighton exit could be ‘long and complicated’ – Deal makes no financial sense for Seagulls
by Sean Lunt · Sport WitnessBrighton and Hove Albion midfielder Brajan Gruda will ‘officially bid farewell’ to loan club RB Leipzig on Saturday as his loan is set to expire.
Journalist Philipp Hinze reports that there is no option for Leipzig to make the move permanent, despite both parties valuing each other.
Brighton uninterested in loan
He reports that while Leipzig and Gruda have built an excellent relationship during his loan spell, another loan from Brighton is ‘out of the question’.
The reason? It doesn’t make economic sense for Brighton. if another loan were to be agreed upon, it would have to be under conditions such as an obligation to buy. Leipzig have not budgeted for a permanent move this summer.
They simply don’t value a high transfer fee deal, and it isn’t a priority. That could change if there are changes in the attacking line up and revenue is generated. For example, if Yan Diomande were to leave for €100m, that would give Leipzig the funds to do business.
But any return for Gruda would be a ‘long and complicated’ one. A return is not out of the question, but it is also not currently a priority.
What happens at Brighton?
It’s also unclear what Brighton’s final plans are for Brajan Gruda. The 21-year-old joined the Seagulls in a €31.5m deal in 2024 but has struggled to establish himself with the Seagulls.
He left in January to get regular playing time back in the Bundesliga and, potentially, return to Germany’s squad for the World Cup. He’s made it clear on several occasions how happy he has been with the deal.
Now he faces the prospect of a return to Brighton this summer. He is seemingly not a part of Fabian Hurzeler’s plans. A decision will have to be made, particularly as his current deal at the club runs until 2028.
