Price gap emerges as Nottingham Forest turn down early €6m offer

by · Sport Witness

Nottingham Forest are heading into an important summer, and John Victor’s situation is starting to move.

As we covered earlier, Brazilian side Cruzeiro have shown interest in John Victor, with manager Artur Jorge pushing for a reunion after their time together at Botafogo.

The Brazilian side see him as someone who can step in and solve an immediate issue. But John Victor wants to stay in Europe if possible, and he still has ambitions of pushing for a place in Brazil’s World Cup squad.

That makes the next few months particularly important for him, both in terms of playing time and visibility. And now ESPN Brazil have brought more detail on how those early talks look from both sides.

Nottingham Forest set stance as Cruzeiro test value

Brazilian journalist Bruno Andrade reported that Cruzeiro have already indicated the level they would be willing to pay. In early conversations, they mentioned a figure around €6m (£5.2m).

That number does not match Nottingham Forest’s expectations. The club currently value John Victor at closer to €10m (£8.6m), and the response has been clear that €6m is not enough. There has been no formal offer yet, but the gap between the two sides is already defined.

This fits with what we know about Nottingham Forest’s position. The club are open to selling John Victor this summer, but they are not looking to do so at a reduced price unless circumstances change.

One factor that could influence things is their league status. If Nottingham Forest were to be relegated, there would likely be more flexibility in negotiations. For now, though, their valuation remains in place.

What happens next

At this stage, Cruzeiro are still testing the situation rather than pushing forward with a formal bid.

For Nottingham Forest, the next step is internal clarity. They need to decide how strongly John Victor features in their plans and whether they are prepared to negotiate.

There is interest, there have been initial conversations, but the numbers do not line up yet. That leaves room for movement, especially as the window approaches.
